General Member Applications – Journal & Seminar Committee
Department of Law, University of Calcutta ✨📚
This General Member Application is exclusively for students of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta.
If you’re part of the department and want to get involved with:
legal writing & editorial work,
organising seminars and events,
design & social media,
tech, backend & logistics, or
just generally helping keep the show running…
Then you’re exactly where you need to be. 💛
The Journal & Seminar Committee (JSC) is a student-run body that handles everything from academic content and events to design, outreach, and tech.
As a General Member, you will:
work with core teams on journals, seminars, workshops and events,
get to explore different branches (writing, design, media, treasury, tech, etc.),
decide over time whether you want to niche down into a specific area or stay an all-rounder,
learn how things actually function behind the scenes in a law school committee.
You don’t need to know your “thing” yet. You can select one branch, many, or even “not sure yet” in the form. Your honesty will not harm your chances of selection.
Check eligibility
You are a current student of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta ✅
Fill in the application form
The form is embedded below on this page.
First-year students will be asked for a cover letter and a writing sample.
Students from the 2nd year onwards will be asked for a CV, a cover letter, and a writing sample.
Branch preferences
Inside the form, you can indicate which areas you’d like to explore (legal writing, graphics, media, treasury, tech, etc.).
You can choose multiple or keep it flexible — this is for internal allocation, not a trap. 😉
Review & selection
The JSC team will review all applications.
Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for a brief interaction or follow-up.
Final selections and updates will be shared via WhatsApp and/or email.
To make the process smoother, it helps if you have:
A PDF of your CV (for 2nd year and above)
A short cover letter (you can reuse one you write for this form later elsewhere, too)
A writing sample (academic or non-academic; essay, article, blog, reflection, etc.)
Don’t panic if you’re in 1st year and don’t have a CV yet — the form is designed with that in mind.
⏱️ Estimated time to complete the form:
If your documents are ready, in around 10–15 minutes
If you are drafting as you go, it may take a little longer, but still very manageable in one sitting
We recommend sitting with a glass of water, your documents handy, and five minutes of peace from your roommate. 😌
The embedded form appears right below this section.
You can fill it in directly on this page — your responses will be securely submitted to the Journal & Seminar Committee, Department of Law, University of Calcutta.
Once you’re done, you’ll see a confirmation message on screen.
See you on the other side of the application. ✨
